Arjun adds to Tolly’s Hit Tally while Vivegam and A Gentleman Bleed.

What an year this has been for Tollywood, what an year. When rest of the Indian Industries are bleeding, its Tollywood dealing with Hits and Blockbusters. Arjun Reddy emerges yet another Hit for Tollywood, #1 Industry this year. Apart from it, all the other new releases including Vivegam and A Gentleman bombed at boxoffice. Overall Top 5 grossed ₹114.4cr, down 12% from last week.

Starting from the Top, Vivegam was #1 film during last week grossing ₹47.95cr (8 days Extended Week ₹70.45cr). Film opened at a satisfactory level on Thursday but burned up quickly in following days. 8 days figures are highest for a Kollywood film in 2017 ahead of Bairaava’s ₹64cr. However same can be credited to the simultaneous Telugu release and GST component which wasn’t case with Bairaava. Film had a big ₹69cr Breakeven point but recovery so far is mere ₹37cr. This adds to the list of Big Star Flops in 2017 which includes Tubelight, JHMS, Katamarayudu and so on. Internationally film grossed $4.25mn or ₹27.2cr approx giving it a Global cume of ₹97.65cr in 8 days.

Film that actually was a winner this week was at #2, Arjun Reddy. It grossed ₹21.85cr over its 1st week with a superb trend. Weekdays of film were 65% of Weekend which is usually around 40% in normal scenario. It has earned ₹12.2cr Share in 1st Week where it required mere ₹5cr approx for Break Even. International numbers are also superb with $1.3mn from a release of 120 sites. With a solid WOM across Telugu hotpots, film may go on to gross ₹50cr globally which will be huge feat for this film.

At #3, A Gentleman grossed ₹21.4cr in its 1st Week. Film is amongst biggest bombs at Box Office unlikely to recover even the P&A Cost. This will end up as lowest grossing Siddhartha Malhotra film till date falling short of Baar Baar Dekho. It was same story internationally where film grossed $1.45mn approx in its 1st Week.

Hollywood Horror Annabelle Creation held quite well at #4 grossing ₹14.08cr or $2.2mn in its 2nd Week. Earlier, it became only 5th Horror film to gross ₹50cr in India, which now stands at ₹60.16cr or $9.4mn. The other four film being Raaz 3, Kanchana 2, Ragini MMS 2 and The Conjuring 2. Coincidentally all the 5 films are sequels with no original film able to do so. When The Conjuring 3 releases expectations will be to have 1st ₹100cr Horror film.

Bareilly Ki Barfi concluded Top 5 grossing ₹10.39cr, taking its 14 days cume at ₹33,54cr. It has performed similar to Happy Bhaag Jayegi released last year during same weekend. With $1.45mn or ₹9.3cr Internationally, it will soon cross ₹50cr globally. Film has earned ₹17cr Share so far against ₹20cr approx Budget, with ancillary incomes being ₹13cr approx. In its Week 3, Toilet Ek Prem Katha grossed ₹8.45cr, taking its cume par ₹155.77cr. With $4.8mn or ₹30.7cr from overseas, global gross stands at ₹186.47cr.
