August 2017 Box Office : Toilet Ek Prem Katha leads 2nd Biggest August ever.

After May 2017 saw biggest monthly gross ever, June and July were simply Disastrous. In fact, July 2017 was lowest grossing at box office in 7 years. August began terribly with JHMS bombing at Box Office but got a bit reprieve mid way. That said overall box office totaled in excess of ₹730cr, up 40% from last month. Compared to last year – it was 17% higher but slightly lower than 2015, becoming 2nd Biggest August ever.

Leading the charge was Toilet Ek Prem Katha, which nearly doubled its closest competitor with ₹155.77cr by end of month. SRK’s Jab Harry Met Sejal came second, which grossed ₹78.12cr, emerging one of the biggest duds recently. It was so bad that it stands among least watched SRK films in last 25 years. Vivegam come third in just eight days of release grossing ₹70cr, however another downer this year. Holly horror Annabelle Creation scared up ₹60.16cr across Indian cinemas. only 5th in its genre. Only Telugu film in Top 5 was Nene Raju Nene Manthri grossing ₹37cr in 3 weeks of release.

Among other names, VIP 2 grossed ₹36.4cr while Jaya Janaki Nayaka grossed34.4cr, however both failed due to high costs. Bareilly Ki Barfi did well grossing ₹33.54cr against its ₹20cr Budget. Arjun Reddy emerged one of the biggest ROI Hits in recent times, with ₹21.85cr during August, heading for ₹40cr closing. Fox Star Studio’s A Gentleman emerged a Disaster grossing mere ₹21.4cr.

There were few carryovers from last month topped by Mubarakan’s ₹35.37cr finishing its cume at ₹69.1cr. The other was Fidaa which grossed ₹27.8cr during August of its ₹70.97cr in India. Tamil Blockbuster Vikram Vedha grossed ₹18cr of its ₹45cr during August. Punjabi film Vekh Baraatan Challiyan grossed ₹9.44cr, aggregating ₹16.64cr.   • Goutham Nanda : ₹18.3cr
